Light Up Rio

The yoyofriends Light-Up Rio is back in limited quantities! This special edition features integrated LED circuitry activated by a magnet, adding a whole new visual dimension to your tricks.

The Rio is yoyofriends’ take on the ultimate machined plastic yo-yo. After the retirement of the Dove, there was a clear gap in their lineup for a high-performance plastic model. While the AoE moved things forward, its injection-molded design leaned more toward beginner and intermediate play. The Rio steps things up with precision-machined polycarbonate, delivering a durable and cost-effective alternative to Delrin while maintaining a smooth, refined feel that’s closer to a monometal.

Drawing inspiration from both the Dove and the AoE, the Rio keeps a comfortable diameter while increasing width for a larger catch zone and added power. The weight distribution has been refined for better stability and longer spin times, and the slanted, bead-blasted metal fingerspin hub improves control and consistency. After the first prototype exceeded expectations, yoyofriends went further by removing the center spacer to deepen the fingerspin hub and shift even more weight to the rims. The result is a yo-yo that combines the power and control of a competition monometal with the fun and versatility of a plastic throw.
