It's been about two years since Duncan revisited the Haymaker design. When they first released the original Haymaker, they worked to produce a competition powerhouse, plain and simple. Later, when they worked on the Haymaker X, they updated the model with the same underlying design philosophy. With this model, they again take a look at what it means to be a competition powerhouse in this ever-evolving competition scene. Introducing the all-new monometal Haymaker!

As they reexamined the idea behind the Haymaker and Haymaker X, they considered how the competition scene had changed in the last two years. One thing they noticed is that the monometal yo-yo is experiencing a renaissance in the competition scene: The modern competitor sees value in monometal and bimetal yo-yos alike.

Recognizing this, they knew what lay before them: they needed to make a monometal yo-yo that packed the same punch as the Haymaker X. In order to do so, they had to make something bolder and wider than ever before; the result of which is something that is truly on par with its predecessors.

In fact, you could even say the new Haymaker is even better than the Haymaker X in some ways: At a price point of $44.99 MSRP, the punch this new Haymaker packs comes at lower than half the price of both the previous Haymaker models.

    Very Good

The monometal Haymaker was my first unresponsive yoyo, and man, I hated it. It was unstable, lacked spin time, and I had a hard time getting it to bind. I got fed up and decided to try out the semi-responsive Deep State by One Drop, and the Haymaker sat in the closet forgotten.

After a couple months and a few more yoyos I gave the Haymaker another try. I figured out the stability issue was mostly me and the spin time was just inherent of a floaty monometal. Binds, however, were still unreliable at best. Again it sat while I ramped up on modern yoyoing, ie. bearings, strings, and other things.

Now, after five or six months of learning and improving, I can finally appreciate the Haymaker. The binding problem was mostly the string. It came with a crappy cotton string and the response pads sorely needed breaking in. After swapping in a Slackie I can honestly say the Haymaker is a really nice yoyo. It plays smaller than it looks and is easy to move around the string and hit tighter tricks. Binds are clean, not overly snappy to the point they hurt like with some competition oriented yoyos. For me it's still not especially stable, so it tends to vibe out or lean if I get a little sloppy. Finally, the finish is great for all kinds of grinds.

Overall I think the Haymaker is a good buy for beginner to intermediate players. It can handle anything I can do, probably a lot more, and is still chill enough to throw around for fun. Just be sure to use a decent string.

    Great yoyo !

This is a great yoyo at the price that it’s offered at it has a very smooth finish so it’s good for grinds if your into that and to describe the feeling it’s very powerful but light feeling it’s on the floaty side so good for your speed combos good balance as well the yoyo hasn’t tilted on me yet
