Blending bi-metal performance with plastic's natural fun factor has always been the goal, and Compound is yoyofriends' most ambitious attempt yet, pairing an aluminum rim with a plastic body. Aluminum's weight distribution is less extreme than steel or titanium, so it enhances performance without overpowering the fun that plastic brings, while still delivering roughly three times the density of polycarbonate alone for a real performance boost over a full-PC yo-yo.

The design pulls its center weight philosophy straight from the Hummingbird, using a center cup and weight positioned directly above the axle to boost RPM and acceleration, while borrowing the large rim area of the Graviton and Replicant profiles to make the most of aluminum's lower density. At around 50mm wide, Compound sits in fun-focused territory without giving up real competitive capability. Prototypes impressed the player team immediately, delivering power that felt like an all-out bi-metal on the first throw, while flowing through combos with a feel that lands somewhere between a competition monometal and full bi-metal. The massive aluminum outer rings paired with the inner aluminum hub also give it a bold, striking look that matched the performance.

Compound pushes further by launching in three plastic body versions: PC, POM, and Nylon, each with its own character. Nylon keeps things lighter with a unique surface texture that makes finger grinds feel distinct, while POM adds real weight, pushing past 70 grams for a construction that leans closer to all-metal performance with a noticeably soft surface touch.
