Wooden yoyo response

Thanks for bearing with me with all of my wood questions.

I just want to ask about response in wooden yoyos.

Does the axle contribute to the response in wooden yoyos, or is it mostly just friction of the string against the walls?

I’m fairly convinced that the axle does not contribute a whole lot, because I’ve had wooden yoyos with gaps that are just slightly too large and they were extremely difficult to return.

What do you think?

I think the axle plays a part in the response. The amount varies with the type of wood and the smoothness.

Yeah, it must contribute something, there’s friction there.
