Markmont Classic release?!!

Who cares about the markmont.next
WE WANT TE MARKMONT CLASSIC.

Whoops.

Typo’s FTW ;D

Mmmmmmaaaannnnnnnn. This was an interesting read for sure heh. Major major MAJOR props to all the folks that are ready for the Classic; I’m very glad ya’ll are thoroughly excited. GregP - you are one very observant dude : P Honorable mention to the folks that thought it would be a full size Cascade (funny fact - when onedrop first showed me the prototype, I had a sketch matching that yo-yo exactly as a concept for my next signature throw. Suffice to say, they beat me to the punch : )

To those that got ‘bored’ by the bit of teasers and yo-yo stories/influence I posted up, either this yoyo or this concept quite frankly just might not be for you. And I don’t mean that in any type of snarky way, I’m just being as real and honest as I can with you. If you know me or know anything about me, then you’d know that I have a very serious passion for this craft. I have done it for a long time. Along the years there have been a slew of very incredible yo-yos to shape my trick style, my yo-yo preference, and eventually my yo-yo design sensibilities. At least half of the yo-yos I highlighted, a lot of players and throwers hadn’t known about. Or if they did know about them, they didn’t know the back story of why they were as coveted as they were/are. That information was detrimentally important for people to understand.

This yo-yo, this concept, the Markmont.Classic is MUCH more then just the yo-yo. It’s a continuation of steel sharpening steel. A continuation of design progression while celebrating the manufacturers of the past’s accomplishments. The yo-yos from the past are important and I had to show respect to those brands out of respect.

Not as many people these days have as strong an emotive connection to the yo-yos they throw, because there is a serious saturation of products. Many still do, but it’s not as across the board as it was in the early 00s when yo-yo options were far more limited. When I make a yo-yo with onedrop, I try to make a product that can stand next to all the legendary throws of the past. I take the notion of ‘getting it right’ very serious, and that takes time. What also takes time is educating the viewer on the idea and how it pertains to me. If the viewer can understand how it pertains to me, then they can then take that info and compare it to how it pertains to them. In short, it gives them something to think about.

I saw a few jabs that were directly at onedrop about them not being on point with the usual ‘release photos and specs, then release yoyo shortly after’ model. If you have irritation and words to throw, please direct all of that to me. The timeliness in which information is released about the yo-yo is strictly by my choice.

Moving right along, to contrary belief of some, the yo-yo is in fact coming out soon. Very very soon. Someone made mention of the release of this yo-yo so close to the Gradient being probably not a strong likelihood. Kudos to you. Strip away the fact that I had an education and brand props as my reasoning for stretching out the release, the single bullet point of the Gradient having just been released should be enough to deem releasing the yo-yo around the same time or right before, not wise. So if you really could care less about why I stretched out the release of info on the yo-yo, you can at least hang your hat on the one fact that releasing 2 yo-yos closely together just wasn’t a good idea : )

So in an effort to validate the truth that this yo-yo does in fact exist : ) I will be releasing a shot of what the yo-yo looks like tomorrow on my Facebook wall.

PS - I don’t want this throw to ‘live up to the hype’. Hype is the un-obtainable level of fantasy perfection that the viewer attaches to the ‘thing’ they are waiting for out of anxiousness. I want it to live next to the meat and potatoes of the content. If it can stand next to the yo-yos that I gave props to, then mission accomplished.

Welcome to the board Mark. I’m the guy who emailed you yesterday hoping you had some old stock yoyos. Happy to say I just found and bought a PALMN Next today! Looking forward to the Classic!

Well damn. Straight talk from the man himself. Although you say you don’t want it hyped up, and I completely understand why, I just can’t help but be excited.

I wasn’t around when your other throws were released, so I haven’t gotten my hands on them. But when I got back into throwing, and I was researching various throws, I was drawn to them; based on specs, reviews, and looks, they fit everything I like in a throw.

I still want to find a couple of the old ones on the BST. But I’m excited for this new design because I have a feeling it might be along the lines of my preferences, and I’ll actually have a chance to buy it new.

Where? Pm me

FullThrottle - I’m glad you’re looking forward to the classic. I see Markmont. Next pop up all the time so I’m sure you will find one. Every time I see one pop up, I’m even tempted to buy it myself. I be like OH SNAP!! as if it’s not even my yo-yo lol.

post a waywt ! (?)

Yep, I’m watching a couple on the bst currently, hoping I can round one up soon.

Also, I’m pumped you’re posting a picture of the Classic today. It’s my birthday, so I’m counting the pic as a “pre-present” for when I buy it as a gift to myself, haha.

Nice to see I wasn’t the only one thinking that. You on SF? Should be sponsored by The Flat Head

You’re a little late buddy

Paul posted it in the Review section a few days ago

Since we’re still waiting on more info anyone else have any more guesses on what the Classic is going to be like? Besides being Cascade like, I’ve also had the thought it may be a copper color, or maybe 2 finishes. One nickel the other copper. Which would mean I’m buying 2 new yoyos soon ;D

Mark already posted a pic of it on Facebook

Y’all should probably look at One Drops Instagram.

“Finishes” as in more than one finish, yep going to be broke soon. This yoyo seems too good to be true based on how Mark described it on Instagram.

Looks awesome. Let’s talk about weight for a moment:

66.5g is a touch heavier than I was hoping for (though for many it will be perfect), but I don’t get the feeling Mark loves super-light yoyos. The beauty is, though, that the .next-inspired SE’s are roughly dome-sized and seem to be made of brass based on the illustration and the construction of the .next itself. That means that switching out for aluminum UL’s could bring you down into the low-60’s!!

(my logic: brass domes are 6.6g, aluminum ULs are 2.5g for a difference of 4g! Even if the new SE’s aren’t exactly the weight of domes, they’ve gotta be in that ballpark).

Of course, if the illustration only LOOKS like brass then you’re only shaving off 0.4g, which isn’t worth it to take out the Markmont-looking new SE’s.

The Instagram update says the weight is “depending on finish”, which makes me believe there will be a nickel version instantly available. Given past Markmont releases, that should come as no surprise. I just wonder if the 66.5 is for the nickel or the ano!

I hope you’re right Greg! 66.5 is on the heavier side for me as well, and I want to get the nickel version so it’ll probably be even heavier

I hope that they are A) Released before Ga States & b) that YYE has a nickel one at their booth (assuming they have one again this year)
