The gap is either too tight or too loose.

Some yoyos are more snaggy than others. make sure there are not any tangles around the bearing.
Even a small tangle can make it snag.

Read the dates before posting please. The last post before the necromancer posted was 12th February.
Anyway, i think his problem is that he didn't wind up like an offstring yoyo, he probably wound up with it attached to the string.
