with a responsive yoyo, pull it up and put your hand to the side of the yoyo so instead of it being returned in a straight pull, the string is coming on the side... erm if that makes sense.

You tug the yoyo up, but you move your hand to the side of the yoyo quickly after you tug it up so that the yoyo still comes back to your hand but since your hand is level with your yoyo and on the side of it the string will spin around. Hope this makes sense
