Introduction:
The CLYW Canvas…Jensen Kimmitt’s new signature yoyo. There was a lot of hype about this, and I was especially excited to try one because it is the same specs as the peak (which I know lots of people love, and I’ve never gotten to try). So I sat at my computer until it released, and the second it was up for sale, I jumped at the opportunity and bought one of the first donut hurdlers. I waited a week and a half, and so now I’m putting up what I think is the first review.
First Impressions:
Well, in terms of first impressions, I was very…impressed. It came in an awesome box with the donut hurdler and longjohn hurdler on the front. I open the box, and the yoyo is wrapped in what seems to be a piece of Jensen Kimmitt’s shirt (red and black plaid). So, by this point, I’m incredibly excited. I unwrap the shirt to find one of the most beautiful yoyos I’ve ever seen. I can’t wait to throw it.

Weight/Bearing/Response:
I picked the yoyo up, and the weight felt average. Not too heavy, not too light. The donut hurdler and longjohn hurdler editions come with custom blue k-pads (for those of you without these editions, yours will come with snow tires, but they are the same size). Snow tires (which I have in my gnarwhal) and these k-pads provide very snappy binds, and are not grabby. There isn’t much to say about the bearing. It’s a standard CLYW C-sized bearing. It’s fine, not amazing, not bad.
On a throw:
I throw it down, and it feels pretty solid—not rock at the end of the string solid, it just isn’t floaty. I bind it back up, and it’s super comfortable. It has a very comfortable shape, and doesn’t hit me with any edges that hurt, or in any bad places on my hand. It has the standard CLYW vibe, but it only has a tiny tiny tiny bit of vibe. The finish is great for grinds, but the vibe effects them a little bit. I don’t do IRG’s, but I can tell it has a lip for them (a lot like the Wooly Marmot’s lip, for those of you who own one). But, even with the vibe, on the string this yoyo is smoooooooooth. Not like there is nothing spinning, but close. There is no string drag whatsoever, and it does not seem grabby at all.
Edit:
So recently I put a ten ball bearing in it and I’ve played it more heavily. Now the vibe is gone, and it is one of the smoothest yoyos I have in terms of grinds and on the string. It might just have been a matter of the string rubbing against the response, and now that that’s worn down, the vibe is gone. That’s my best guess because I don’t know what else would change the vibe.

Final thoughts:
I love this yoyo. It really will appeal to everyone. For people who like undersized, the organic (butterfly) shape of it makes it incredibly comfortable in the hand, even though it is a full sized yoyo. And of course, being a CLYW, it is very smooth. It really is an all around great player. There is nothing that it lacks in. I think it was definitely worth the $150, and I would recommend it to anyone who can afford it.
