I'm a bit confused on the cube types (type a, b, c, etc). Can someone give me a quick crash course on this?

Beginner's method: I've been doing this method for years, and only recently have I stopped. It just looks ugly.

Instead, I've been doing this:

Corners first/Keyhole. I'm slower at the moment, but I take way less moves. Note that I haven't posted a speedsolve video; this is me demonstrating the method.
