95% of sleep time is your throw. If you aren't getting the spin-time you want, then work on throwing straighter and stronger, with a tight wrist snap. Any modern yoyo with as ball-bearing will give you minutes and minutes of sleep time with a decent, straight throw.

Also, if you're going for straight-out spin time, not doing combos or tricks or stuff, you can use the string twist method to get a lot more spin time than you'd get from just throwing it down and waiting. This is how records are set.

Just do tricks and you will get better at throwing as you do it more often.

Shims will do something, since its a DM1 the string will touch the oring and the star burst. I shim add are added the string will touch less the response and you will have a wider gap so you do trick easier.
if you havent noticed, you can have a straight throw... that will keep the string from touching the starbursts.

The DM v1 or v2 is a great yoyo. I mean if a national yoyo master likes them and has one as a signature yoyo, they must be good right? I know i want another one. I didn't get one like the experts did. So...... Now i want one!

My first metal-rim yoyo was a Dark Magic. It was someone else's main yoyo for a year before I got it, then it was my faithful companion until it finally gave up the ghost in the courtyard of Grays Harbor College on a mild day in the spring of 2006. I've owned other DMs since then, but right now I have but one. It looks like this, and it was given to me on the condition that I never sell it:

The yoyo spins on a bearing. A good one with a fair throw should give you about 5 min.

People are already say it. Practice.
you wont get strong and straight throw instantly, you will learn it through certain process.
first time i saw andre's strong throw vid, i was amazed. After a year, i can do that pretty easily.
don't blame the yoyo, they'll do fine if you treat them right. As in throw them stright and strong.
