A look back into 1999:
Much to the dismay of the “hard core” yo-yo players a young man by the name of Joel Zink won the 1999 World Yo-Yo Contest with a yo-yo freestyle of flash and flair. The true yo-yo players of the time argue his tricks were too simple and his outfit was horrendous. We will let you be the judge there. A recent article from his school, the University of Southern California, focused in on his accomplishments. Read the article here and check out his routine below.
In what begins our “Random” Category here an individual named Niki has appeared to have broken a world record – specifically sleeping a yo-yo while doing a trick on a bike…
Niki Y. combines his yo-yo and bicycle skills en route to setting a universal record for the longest yo-yo sleeper while doing a one-foot track stand. Niki stayed balanced for 33.41 seconds.
The record took placed on August 8, 2008 at the International Yo-Yo Open in New York City. Niki used a YoYoJam Hitman yo-yo. His bike was a 53 cm Iro Mark V. Witnesses were Talia Ledner and Colin Nissan.
The 2008 National Yo-Yo Contest could have been bad… Upon arrival on Friday competitors were met with rain which forced the contest to cancel the Friday Night Preliminary Activities. However the contest directors decided to stick through it outside and even came prepared with a little leaf blower action to clear the stage:

THP RETURNS?!?!?!
If you have been around the Yo-Yo World long enough you might recognize these teal blue shirts. Back in the day these were the shirts of Team High Performance which was arguably the beginning of yo-yoing as know it in terms of freestyle competitions, etc.
YoYoFactory decided to bring this tradition back:
